6. Elevated inhibin levels inhibit FSH release from the anterior pituitary.
Follicular development continues in spite of reduced FSH in circulation.
This is possible because the granulosa cells are expressing more FSH receptors at this time. The sensitivity of the granulosa cells to FSH has increased so they are able to function normally with low levels of FSH.
